Importing A Ford From The US Into Canada: Recall Clearance Information Available Online

***NOTE*** As of August 3, 2010, this information is not valid. Refer to http://ucanimport.blogspot.com/2010/08/ford-sells-volvo-unit-to-chinese.html for details.

----------

If you are importing a Ford vehicle from the US into Canada you can obtain Recall Clearance information directly from the Ford website.

1. Go to: http://www.customersaskford.com and type in the words "What is a recall."

2. A new page will open up and ask you to input your VIN.

3. The page will refresh to show you if there are any recalls outstanding on your proposed import.

You can also ask the dealership to print off a Ford OASIS report for your vehicle to show if any recalls are outstanding.

I have contacted Ford to ask for a recall clearance letter and they told me that it is now policy to not provide to a Cdn address or Cdn fax number.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Anyone have a Ford recall clearance letter that they will post for reference?

Hi Anonymous:

Thanks for your posting. Did you try going to the Ford website and printing the information as indicated in the posting above?

I have a copy of a Ford Oasis Report that I can send to you by e-mail if you wish to see a sample. Please e-mail me at info@ucanimport.com

Thank you.

Can anyone confirm that a printout from the Ford website will actually be enough at the border?

Recall clearance is NOT required at the border. Recall clearance information must be supplied to Transport Canada through RIV either before or after your importation. If a recall is showing as open, then the recall work must be completed at an authorized dealership in the US or in Canada and a work order supplied to Transport Canada through RIV.

Directions on completing these steps are provided in the importing guide.

For the US border, ensure your documents are submitted a minimum of 3 business days in advance of your intended crossing date.

For the Canadian border, ensure that you are aware of which taxes, duties and other levies may apply to your importation.

If purchasing a vehicle under your business name, make sure you complete Form B3 for Canada Customs, have a bank draft made out to Receiver General for all taxes, duties etc., and travel through the Commercial Importation lane.
