Canadian Dealers Can Activate DRLs

A few weeks ago a subscriber asked:

"Do you know if Chrysler makes a module to turn on the DRL system in a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. I live in the States and have a Canadian made unit. All the dealers and Chrysler have given me is a run around. Anything will be helpful."

UCanImport offered this reader some advice on how to get the information, and asked them to provide any feedback for our subscribers and blog readers. Here's the answer for all Chrysler importers:

"I finally found the answer to the question. American Chrysler product dealers do not have the ability to turn the DRL system on with their Tech Box, but I have discovered that Canadian Chrysler product dealers do. All I have to do is drive over to Windsor and go to the dealer and they will take their box and flash the PCM and on they come."

Understanding Requirements for Bumper Modifications

If you are looking to import a 2004 to 2008 Chrysler Crossfire from the US, you will have to factor in the price of bumper modifications. Until bumper standards between the US and Canada are harmonized, here is what you can expect:

The RIV listing for Chrysler shows two asterisks for these models indicating "that the vehicle in question will require modifications to the existing bumper(s) before it can be registered and licensed. Some vehicles can be readily modified by installing the appropriate Canadian parts. However, some vehicles cannot be readily modified and may require comprehensive and expensive modifications."

Class Action Law Suit Filed Against Auto Manufacturers

Four Toronto residents have filed a $2 billion lawsuit against the Canadian and U.S. divisions of General Motors, Honda, Nissan and Chrysler.

Written by David Friend from The Canadian Press and entitled "Lawsuit Alleges Automakers Conspired to Boost Canadian Prices", this article claims the auto industry is engaged in a price conspiracy to artificially maintain car prices in Canada. Examples of differences in MSRPs between the two countries are provided.
