For Porsche importers, please note that on the 2008 models, RIV has recently updated bumper requirements to read as follows:
All passenger car U.S. models (Boxster, Cayman, 911 varients) do not comply with CMVSS 215 (bumpers). In order for these vehicles to be brought into compliance with CMVSS 215, the two impact pipes (part # 996 505 019 01) and their mating two desk pad impact absorbers (part # 996 505 775 00) that support the rear bumper have to be replaced with the Canadian specification impact absorbers (part # 996 505 015 01) and desk pad impact absorbers (part # 996 505 775 01).
UCanImport is encouraging importers to get a quote for this modification prior to commencing their importation.

That 996-505-015-01 number is not a good number in the Porsche system.
Thank you! This information was obtained from the Transport Canada website and may have been incorrectly posted by their office. If you have a correct part number, please send it to us and we will update the information.
Any news on roughly how much will the modification cost? I am a week away from giving my full payment on a 2008 911 turbo.
Max, our suggestion is to ask the dealership for a written quote using the VIN of the 911. This is the only legitimate way that we can offer to get this information.
If anyone has had to undergo these modifications, please post your costs to the blog.

The summary of this announcement is that a harmonized standard for bumpers "would result in one consistent set of globally regulated test speed requirements for the design of bumpers, which would simplify the task of designing bumpers for vehicles destined for North American and European markets."

When is the answer to the amendment expected? I have an appoitment to do the modifications on the 30th of april. The time required to do the modifications is 1.5 hour and the cost of the part is roughly $400. So the total modification is about $500 before tax.

About time. Now, we just have to wait for the manufacturers to update their compliance for importation of their vehicles against the new bumper amendment.
